PNR BOOK FAIR!

It's Halloween Season. What better way to spend it than reading a Paranormal, Fantasy, Sci-fi or Spooky Romance?

https://books.bookfunnel.com/october-pnr-fantasy-sci-fi-romance/3qsh9u8tsb

Going Back to Find You is one of the books featured in this event. Here's the blurb and a brief excerpt. Also, btw, one of the books I'm working on at the moment is a sequel to this book, so I'm feeling very into Jason right now...

Because even a vampire deserves a second chance.

When Jason Cook boarded the train to San Francisco, he didn't plan on coming back. He never really thought he'd see Nebraska or Lizbeth Petersen ever again.

But when an unexpected turn of events threatens the woman he'd been forced to leave behind, he has no choice but to go back and try to make things right.

Warning: This is not a drill. Vampires are invading your favorite, small Nebraska town this Halloween.

Does this mean Type-O flavored Booze will soon be the new rage in Sapphire Falls? Hopefully, it won't come to that. But you never can tell...

Excerpt:

San Francisco, California
Three weeks before Halloween…

If there was one thing Jason Cook knew to be true, it was that he was no one’s idea of a hero. He was moderately big, moderately strong; he knew a thing or two about following directions and keeping his mouth shut—all good traits to possess if there was heavy lifting to be done or bodies to be disposed of. Not that there’d been all that many of the latter, but he was a vampire, so there’d definitely been a few.

But other than those odd occasions when someone with his particular skillset was required, Jason was used to being…well, overlooked was not too strong a word for it. If he were honest, it was a state of affairs that suited him fine.

It didn’t hurt his feelings one bit to be able to fly under everyone’s radar. In fact, he considered it a valuable survival technique. Experience had taught him to steer clear of stronger, meaner, or more short-tempered vampires. No good ever came from attracting their attention. As for purposely seeking one out or, worse yet, actively confronting one of them? That was a tactic he preferred to keep in reserve for instances in which his life, or someone else’s, might depend upon it. Which is why he was currently at risk of hyperventilating as he stood in the dimly lit upstairs hallway of the Quintano Mansion, trying to force himself to knock on the door to his sire’s private office.

It had been a surprise to receive word that Conrad wished to speak with him. And by no means a happy one. It was the first such invitation Jason had received in the one hundred and sixty years he’d been part of the Quintano vampire family. He had no idea what it meant, but it was hard to believe it was anything good.

“He’s not Floyd,” Jason whispered encouragement to himself. “He’s nothing like him.” Floyd, Jason’s original sire, had been a bully with a mean streak a mile wide. Conrad, for all that he was stronger and far more dangerous than Floyd, had never struck Jason as being a bully. Then again, how well did you ever really know anyone?

“Enter!” A voice growled from within the room, pulling a defeated sigh from Jason’s lips. Not a bully, but as short tempered and prone to violence as the next vampire. Of course, Conrad would have heard him muttering to himself in the hallway just outside his office. Heard him, or scented him… Hell, for all Jason knew, Conrad might have looked through the wall and seen him. Jason had no idea what was possible when it came to the enhanced abilities most other vampires seemed to possess.

Most other vampires. But not Jason.

Resigning himself to whatever fate awaited him, Jason pushed open the door and poked his head inside. “Good evening, sir. You wanted to see me?”

“Yes, Jason, thank you. I appreciate your being so prompt.”

“Oh…uh, certainly,” Jason replied, reluctant to leave the relative safety of the doorway. “You-you’re welcome.”

Conrad looked as out of place in the elegant, paneled room as Jason felt. He was dressed casually enough. His shirt was open at the throat, the sleeves rolled up to reveal heavily muscled forearms, but they were the kind of muscles, or so Jason had long suspected, that one only developed over decades, possibly centuries, of repeatedly wielding heavy swords. There was nothing civilized about Conrad Quintano, a fact that struck Jason anew practically every time he saw him.

If Jason was not mistaken, that desk Conrad was seated behind was the same desk Jason had been enlisted to help move into the room sometime in the mid-1800s. Perhaps that’s why he was here now? Perhaps Conrad had merely decided the office was overdue for an upgrade. It wasn’t impossible that was the case, and there was nothing lost in hoping for it.

Coming This Holiday Season

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT

Her love could light up his night...if they can both survive that long.

Heather is having the worst Christmas ever! Or, at least, the worst Christmas since she was forced to become a vampire. Her sire's distracted, her nestmates have forgotten her, weirdos have taken over the lair. The only bright spot in her life right now is Drew--who didn't even used to like her! She knows he's coming around, but that's not good enough. She wants more. She wants everything. She wants him. And she's not giving up.

Drew Geiger gave up on love a long time ago. Such tender emotions have no place in a vampire's heart. But, somehow, the girl he once described as a "feral kitten" has got her claws in him, and she's not letting go. That would be fine, if only someone didn't want her dead--and if her sire didn't recall that it was Drew who once suggested that maybe she'd be better off that way.

Tentatively scheduled for a December 2022 Release

Releasing Next Year:

CHASING DAYLIGHT

This story takes place at the same time as Light Up the Night, but the focus is on Jason and Liz (Going Back to Find You) rather than Drew and Heather.

Scheduled to release on April 1, 2023 as part of the FREE antho, Shifter Fever

DANCING IN THE DARK

Sometimes living forever is not all it's cracked up to be.

1956 Winnipeg, Canada. Once Armand Renaud realizes that eternal youth is a real possibility, nothing will deter him from achieving his goal. And after one hundred years of solitude, Conrad can’t bring himself to resist the handsome young dancer who’s hellbent on being turned.

They both know they’re not destined to be the great loves of each other’s lives, but there are worse ways to pass a long and lonely decade or two than in the arms of a passionate stranger.

Living forever might not be everything they’d hoped for. But, at least they can still get a few things right. Can't they?

Scheduled for release November, 2023 as part of the Vampire Rejected Mates anthology.

Vanilla Excerpt from Funnel of Love

I'm writing a post about scents for next week's Romance Writers Weekly blog hop. And obviously the Oberon books are full of scents--Scent of the Roses in particular. But my most recent release, Funnel of Love, has a cute drunken love scene that's focused on vanilla and starts like this...

She took him by the hand and led him down a short, narrow hallway—dark and cool in the absence of windows. He’d left his shoes at the door when they’d first come in and the polished wood felt slippery beneath his socked feet. A sweet, elusive scent lingered in the air, too faint to identify, like a ghostly melody; it burst into full-throated song when she opened the door to her bedroom.

It was brighter in here. Sunlight poured in through the foamy, white curtains that hung across the room’s two windows. It was also warmer than it had been in the hallway. And this room was at least a little less sparsely furnished than the rest of the house had been. It felt lived in. Welcoming.

At least, that was his initial impression. Once his gaze landed on the bed, however, everything else disappeared—other than the fragrance, lush and sumptuous, that perfumed the air.

Vanilla and cream, with a hint of white musk, he thought, breathing deeply. Unless his brain was simply misled by the bedding, by an excess of puffy white pillows and a billowing duvet that all but obscured the old brass bedframe, its metal dulled and mellowed by time and exposure to the damp, salty air.

She’d turned to ask him something—the lilt at the end of the sentence registered in his brain. He recognized that her words had taken the form of a question, but the sense of them was lost, buried beneath a fluffy, white cloud of Want.

He caught her around the waist and tumbled them both onto the bed then rolled to pin her beneath him. She lay there laughing breathlessly, caged between his arms, gazing up at him. All that soft, pale bedding mounded around her was like a snowdrift. Only drier and warmer, sweeter…  No, not snow. “It’s like marshmallows,” he told her.

She laughed harder. “What?”

“Your bed. It’s like one, big, giant, bouncy, squishy—”

“Stop it. It’s not. It’s memory foam.”

“Foam? What are you talking about? It’s much more substantial than foam. It’s like custard, or whipped cream or…no, that’s still not right, is it?”

“You’re babbling. You’re not making any sense.”

“That’s because I’m dizzy.”

“It’s because you’re drunk.”

“Nah, that’s not it.”

“That’s exactly what it is.”

“Okay, maybe. A little. Are you saying you’re not?”

“No, I am not saying that. What I’m saying is that I…I wasn’t talking about me, was I? I was talking about you.”

“It’s a sugar rush, that’s what it is. Your bed’s like a gigantic cream puff.” He bent his head and kissed her. “Or maybe that’s you.” Her lips were soft. Sweet. Tender—that was the word he’d wanted. Tender and…and cushiony. “Yeah, definitely you.”

“I’m not sure what I think about that,” she said, pouting a little. “Especially the gigantic part. I don’t think that’s true.”

“Just for a creampuff. You’re the perfect size for a person.”

“I like your size too. Oh, wait, that’s not right. I haven’t even seen what size you are yet. Why is that? Why are we both still dressed?”

Will Atlas Beach be big enough for both of them?

Baker Rocco DiLuca is not a happy camper. He’s just found out that his baby sister is getting married—to his former best friend—and he's not invited. But that's not even the worst part. They’ve hired someone else to make their wedding cake!

He knew he and Kristy hadn't exactly been speaking to each other, but he hadn't realized they Weren’t Speaking to each other! Now he has to figure out how to repair their family feud, or forever keep his distance. Unfortunately, his best hope for success is the woman he considers his competition.

Stephanie Sands thinks the Chamber of Commerce’s mentorship program is a great idea! She’s not ashamed to admit that her boutique bakery, Sugar Kink, isn't quite making it. Yet. But the mentor she's been assigned, Rocky D, isn’t just traditional, he’s positively medieval. It’s no wonder his sister wants nothing to do with him!

Can they put aside their differences (and the insane attraction they feel) to help each other out? Or will their dreams fall as flat as a failed souffle?

Naughty Is As Naughty Does

Before the Nine Naughty Novelists (which I still affectionately think of as N cubed--I even got a tattoo) came along I didn't really care for the word naughty. I thought it was a little silly. In fact the only way they got me on board with the name was through the addition of the word Nine. I couldn't resist the alliteration. Also, in my head I kept hearing Sesame Street's Count intoning, "Nine. Nine Naughty Novelists. Heh, heh, heh," and I was a goner.

Now, even though 9NN is no more, I'm still primed to react positively to the word naughty. In fact, I'm primed to rush the gate without thinking, which is why, for the NEXT THREE CHRISTMASES I'll be writing Naughty Christmas stories. Assuming the world survives that long. Here's a look ahead...

First up, releasing this November is the first Let's Get Naughty anthology--with one of the most gorgeous covers I've ever seen.

Pre-Order it here:

https://books2read.com/letsgetnaughty

Seriously, how could I  resist a cover like that? Well, obviously I couldn't. My story for this anthology is Christmasing With You. This is an expanded version of a short Ugly Christmas Sweater story I wrote in conjunction with the Nine Naughty Novelists several years ago. It features Mike and Claire from Let Me Count the Ways (LA Love Lessons, book 3). Here's the blurb:

The sweater was just the beginning…

Mike's been a very good boy this year and Santa Claire has the perfect present picked out for him—one that's both naughty and nice!

One more disaster could be the end…

Mike and Claire were hoping their first Christmas together would be unforgettable. But when their sexy, adult-film-themed weekend abruptly veers into low-budget, chiller-diller territory, they’re left to worry that this Christmas will turn out to be memorable in all the worst ways.

An isolated cabin, a winter storm, a hungry cougar—what could possibly go wrong? In a word: everything.

It's a cute story. There's role playing, a little BDSM-lite, adult Christmas toys, and lots of obscene Christmas decorations. Who even knew that was a thing?  Plus, of course, the obligatory Ugly Christmas Sweater.

Then, in October 2023, Let's Get Naughty 2 releases! I signed up for that one when I got wait-listed for LGN 1. Then, as luck would have it, I got into both! That has a gorgeous cover, as well, but apparently, we're not allowed to share that one yet. I have two stories in mind for that one. I guess we'll see which one is speaking louder to me when I get around to writing it next year. But, if you'd like a hint, one is another LA Love Lessons spin-off featuring April and Zach and a whole cast of wacky characters and is set in the woods near Ojai. Working title: Last Room at the Inn. The other is an Oberon Christmas story called, Christmas Every Day and features Lucy and Dan. Lucy gets caught in a holiday time-warp in that one, a la Groundhog Day.

THEN, on December 8, 2024, I'll be releasing Spicy Nick in conjunction with The Naughty List series. I'm probably not supposed to share that cover yet either, so shhhhhh! Don't tell anyone.

Cute, right? This time it was the TITLE that got to me. I'm old enough to remember a commercial about "speecy, spicy meatballs." And, well, Nick and meatballs go together, so...

I don't really have a plan for this one yet, but I know it takes place immediately after Scout's trip to LA as detailed in, I'll Be Home For Christmas. I figured that she needed a treat after that upsetting experience.

The next few years are going to be VERY Christmas-centric. I also have a couple of vampire Christmas stories that I'll be releasing, a steampunk collection, and Christmas Angel which will first debut in May 16, 2023 as part of the Redemption Fallen Angel Anthology. Which also has an awesome cover:

Here's the current blurb. It's a work in progress and names are subject to change:

You’ve heard this story a hundred times before. Well. A dozen times, anyway. It’s a Christmas classic: Cranky guy dies without learning the true meaning of the season, gets turned into an angel and is given the job of saving someone else from suffering the same unhappy fate.

Usually it’s billed as a romance, or at least as feel-good, family fun. Which is ridiculous. Even Dickens, the man who invented cheesy Christmas stories, knew better than that. His Marley was miserable, as who wouldn’t be in his situation?  Which also happens to be my situation.

Hi. My name is Jacob. I’m an angel. And this is my story...

New Release! Funnel of Love

FUNNEL OF LOVE IS LIVE!
Buy it HERE

I had so much fun writing this book! It has jokes and funny stories and funny music--see the playlist below. Numbers 3, 4 and 5 are my favorites.  There are drunken conversations, and drunken sex, and family being...well, family. There are two families, actually. So double the drama! There's a wedding. There's a cat. There's a secret pregnancy. And there's cake.

So. Much. Cake.

Right now, it's on sale for only .99 cents which is less than you'd pay for even ONE cupcake. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I  enjoyed writing it.

Wedding Bells Redux

Today’s my anniversary! So, it’s probably not surprising that I’m in a wedding-y mood. Which means YOU get to hear all about my most wedding-y book ever. There’s even a link to an excerpt, although it’s from an earlier version of the book, before the wedding venue was changed to Oberon.

You can find the excerpt here:  https://rhymeswithforeplay.blogspot.com/2017/07/going-to-chapel-excerpt.html

AND if you're interested in learning the reason for the change and how everyone ended up in Oberon, you can read about that here: https://oberoncalifornia.blogspot.com/2019/06/wedding-bells-in-oberon.html

                                  Going To The Chapel

An Oberon/LA Love Lessons Crossover Book 1.0

In Waiting For The Big One, Gabby and Derek went from being friends to being lovers. Now, they're waiting for their "big day". But will it be the wedding of their dreams? Or a bride's worst nightmare?

A quick trip to Gabby's hometown turns into the wedding from hell when Gabby and Derek are plagued by hailstorms, lost reservations, voracious goats, angry bees and enough family drama to fill a barn.

Guess it's true what they say, "The course of true love never did run smooth." But can the happy couple hold it all together, or will their Big Day turn into a Big Mess?

***A slightly different version of this book was previously released as part of the Sapphire Falls Kindle World program.***
