This is a mug that I'd thought I'd lost in one of the several moves I've made since I bought it. I think I've had it for twenty years or so, give or take. I definitely had it when I was writing the Oberon series, since I got the idea to name the beachside cafe (that's modeled in part on Berkeley's Seabreeze Cafe) Beach Hopper in part because of this restaurant. As well as, in part, due to having worked as a docent at the Berkeley Marina which is where I was first introduced to the fascinating little crustacean called a Beach Hopper--but that's another story, I suppose.
Fish Hopper (which, sadly, no longer exists) was also one of the restaurants that provided inspiration for Oberon's Buena Vista Diner. So it definitely left it's mark on the series.
In any case, this is a standard size mug, with a handle that's been repaired--I'm hard on mugs. Actually moving on average every two years over the course of forty-some-odd-years is hard on mugs. And many other things!
I still remember the move where I was at work when things were being loaded on the truck and I got a frantic phone call from my daughter telling me I needed to get back to the house rightthisminute because everything was getting broken.
I really hate moving. Have I mentioned that?
Anyway, I found this mug when I was unpacking a couple of boxes of dishes that I'd never gotten around to unpacking after my last move. I have a lot of dishes. I think, if I ever run out of mugs to post (which doesn't seem too likely, does it?) I might move on to dish sets. Or cutlery sets...okay, I don't have as many of those, but we'll see. Ooh...or maybe I'll just add a Tuesday Tea post. We shall see...
But, back to this mug. I'm currently working on the annotations for Dream Under the Hill, book eight in the Oberon series--which also has another new cover, btw--but neither Beach Hopper nor the Buena Vista Diner appear in that book. So rather than trying to find another excerpt to post, I'll just post a promo pic with the new cover. I'd love to know what you think about it!
