What I'm Reading Post for: November 01, 2023

Happy Dia De Los Muertos!  Today I'm highlighting books or series with magical/ghostly themes!

First up is Meg Benjamin's Ramos Family series--Medium Well, Medium, Rear and Happy Medium. I  love clever titles. I just wish the series title was a little more clever. OR AT LEAST that it gave a better indication of what these books are about. The books are about the Ramos siblings--Danny, Rosie, and Ray. Over the course of the series they come to discover that they've inherited various psychic abilities/sensitivities from their mother's family--the Riordans.

The siblings end up dealing with a variety of spooks--ghosts, demons (soul eaters), spirit guides, and familiars, usually with an assist from Mama (AKA Deirdre Riordan Ramos) who probably should have told everyone the truth years ago. But then, there might not have been a story.

They're fun reads if you like your romance spooky.

T.L. Schaefer has penned some of my favorite Paranormal Romantic Suspense tales ever. Her Mariposa series is just SO GOOD.  Cops and witches and magic and evil cult leaders and murder and a dreamy California small-town setting... Can you see why I might find that appealing? Go and check it out now!

Before Jenny Schwartz decided to go all in on her fabulous Sci-Fi and Space Opera stories, she amassed a solid backlist of fantastic PNR tales. The Old School paranormal romance thriller series is filled with all manner of fantastical creatures, magical talents, love and danger. The "Old School" is an all-girls, British boarding school, Minervalle, that sounds quite like a Hogwarts that also enrolls muggles.

It's a fantastic premise, the stories are full of intrigue, atmosphere, and fun! And the covers are GORGEOUS.

Before there was the Old School, there was the Collegium, an institution founded to bring together magic users, to identify threats and protect the world from evil. You'll find demons, and djinns, dragons, shifters and witches and a variety of international settings.

Kelly Jamieson does not ordinarily venture into PNR, but after reading Big Witch Energy you'll probably find yourself wondering (as I was and am) WHY THE HELL NOT?  Because it's pretty damn awesome.

Romy's an orphan who takes a DNA test and finds out she's a witch. CORRECTION: she finds out witches exist and that she's one of them. She also finds the family she never knew she had AND learns that the sexy guy she's crushing on is one of the fam. NOT through blood ties, but there's friendship and history and all manner of complications. It's irresistible. And I SO want this to be a series.

Finally, here's one I haven't read--yet--but you know I will be because the premise sounds adorable. Ménage a Monster is a new "humorous erotic paranormal romance" by Linda Mooney w/a Carolyn Gregg.

Joey and Ethan have been best buds since elementary school, and they've shared just about everything.

When a zombie outbreak shuts down the city every night for several months, they're faced with not being able to celebrate Halloween for the first time in history. However, Ethan gets the idea for the both of them to break curfew and check out the newest nightclub in town. With a little luck, they might be able to hook up with a couple of girls and really enjoy the evening.

There they meet Roksana, who agrees to join them at their table, and the guys realize they've struck gold. After she drinks too much, they offer to escort her back to her nearby apartment complex to make sure she arrives safely and doesn't get attacked. Except they didn't realize the nightclub had been infiltrated. Or that Roksana had become infected.

They expected a little threesome action, and action they got!
